The earlier entries lean more towards straight mystery and suspense, while later shows deal directly with horror and the occult.

Way Out (note that the on-screen title begins with an apostrophe) was a 1961 fantasy and science fiction television anthology series hosted by writer Roald Dahl. The macabre 25-minute shows were introduced by Dahl's dry delivery of a brief introductory monologue, sometimes explaining a method of murdering a spouse without getting caught.

Dr. Terrible's House
This short-lived comedy series spoofed British films of the 1960s and 1970s, notably Hammer Horror. Each episode opened with an introduction by the bald headed Dr. Terrible (a cross between Yul Brynner and Telly Savalas, played by Steve Coogan). What followed was the story (with Coogan playing the main part in each tale) and at the end, Dr. Terrible would come back and say, "That was truly diabolical" and give a message to the audience.

Being completely devoted to his wife Wanda, Al sells his soul to the devil - Malebolgia - in exchange for a second chance on earth. But Malebolgia has sent him five years into the future, with no memories, and in the unrecognizable form of a "hell spawn" with superhuman powers. In his effort to make sense of his new existence, Spawn must also use these powers to serve those who allowed him to return a duty he is not entirely convinced he wants to fulfill.
